Layer de le Haye is situated just south of Colchester with a population of circa 2,000. The Parish Council has nine councillors who represent the residents of the village. Services in the village include the recreation field, the village hall where many functions are held, tennis courts and allotments. In addition the village benefits from open areas such as Malting Green. The council offices are located in the village hall located at New Cut, Layer de la Haye, Essex, CO2 0EH. The office is normally open on Mondays 09:30 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 16:30. Variations to those times re published on the noticeboard by the bus shelter opposite The Fox.
