You may have noticed a jump in the Layer de la Haye portion of the council tax this year.  There are many reasons for this increase which include:

  • Inflation on everything we have to pay for – especially anything that uses fuel.  Our costs have risen and continue to rise
  • Government NI increase
  • Mandatory staffing costs
  • Redesign internal governance and financial processes following the last internal audit
  • Mandatory activity to make the PC compliant with security and government requirements which include a move to a gov.uk domain, website, emails and software licensing costs

Also, in previous years the council has tried to absorb as much as possible but this is no longer tenable which is why it looks like such a large increase in one year.  When you look at other local precepting councils, on the whole our new precept is still lower even before they apply their increases for this year.
